Brother Design Stars Finalists Announced

The Brother Design Stars 2016 finalists have been announced with twelve talented young designers now getting ready to showcase their creativity on the New Zealand Fashion Week runway.

This is the third year the competition has been run and it encourages school students to enter their designs into one of two award categories – fashion or craft – with the chance to win thousands of dollars in prizes and money-can’t-buy experiences. For 2016 the theme for the competition was 'Shine Bright' which each young designer interpreted in their own way.

The finalists in the Brother Design Stars fashion category are: Rabab Ghuman (13) Auckland; Ashleigh Kroef (13) Auckland; Makayla Foster (13) Raumati Beach; Sophie Parsons (17) Hawkes Bay; Anna Tingey (17) Tauranga, and Kaiawa Connelly (14) Ohakune.

Finalists in the Brother Design Stars craft category are: Ella Flowers (13) Kapiti Coast; Angelica Morton (12) Auckland; Olivia Dowley (13) Havelock North; Jane Lee (20) Rotorua; Lucas Loos (14) Auckland, and Gabby Dodd-Terrell (15) Christchurch.

The competition was judged by Jessie Wong, designer of Yu Mei, which will also be showing on the NZFW runway this year, and Fifi Colston, a professional crafter and World of Wearable Arts winner. Each of the winning designs will take to the runway at the NZFW Graduate Show supported by Brother on Thursday 25th August. From the twelve Brother Design Stars finalists, the judges will now select the top four as winners of each division and an overall supreme winner.

All of the finalists now go forward for public voting to win the Spotlight People’s Choice Award through The Adam and Eve Show on TV2.  You can view imaege of the Brother Design Stars finalists and vote for your favourite online at theadamandeveshow.com. We look forward to seeing all the finalists creations on the runway at NZFW.
