What are the general rules for race day dressing?
There arent really any hard and fast rules these days, but you definitely need a headpiece of some kind. Racing is traditionally conservative so my aim is demure rather than diva. Plus think comfortable high heels.
Are there different dress codes for races held at different times of the day?
Twilight Racing (thats racing in the late afternoon/evening) is becoming really popular and there is a subtle difference in dress. Its more cocktail wear – there are lots of cute dresses and headwear tends to be of the hairpiece / fascinator variety rather than large or full brim day hats. But remember to dress for the 5s not the 9s.
Hat or fascinator?
I went through a phase of where it was all about the fascinator but now Im back to small structured hats.
