The latest exciting collaboration from Blunt Umbrellas is out today with the durable umbrella brand partnering with celebrated New Zealand artist, Misery. They’re created a covetable limited edition umbrella with an eye-catching print in the brand’s modern umbrella styles.
“As huge fans of her vibrant and creative art, we’re thrilled to be working with Tanja Jade McMillan, aka Misery, and see her designs come to life on a Blunt umbrella,” says Todd Graydon, Global General Manager at Blunt Umbrellas.
Fans of Misery’s brilliant artwork will love the new umbrella, the concept of it was inspired by Misery’s interest in Asian and Pacific art as well as goldfish.
“My husband breeds tropical fish, and for the past year our studio has been shared with quite a few aquariums, which is lovely to be surrounded by, and has definitely had some influence in creating this work,” says Tanya. “I also drew inspiration from my Asian-Pacific heritage which translates across the overall design – it’s watery and dreamy, but also quite graphic with eye-popping colour so it will be noticed when coming down the street. I have absolutely loved working with Blunt Umbrellas on this exciting collaboration. It’s an amazing feeling to see my artwork on such a beautifully designed product and I can’t wait to see New Zealanders enjoying it.”
New Zealand’s love Misery’s colourful and whimsical characters which have drawn the artist a legion of fans around the globe. She has successfully exhibited in all corners of the globe including Berlin, Taiwan, Melbourne, Paris and Los Angeles with her artwork including highly crafted paintings, illustrations, wall art and animation. She also creates sculptures, having completed two commissioned bronzes for Karangahape Road in 2016.
The limited edition Misery for Blunt Umbrella is stylish, functional, and durable, able to withstand gale force winds of up to 120 kph. The limited edition umbrella is available in both Metro and Classic styles and is sold online and in selected retailers nationwide.
