Cold weather and dry skin go hand-in-hand and now that the icy weather is in full swing, it’s not just your coats and woollens that need to be heavier, it’s your moisturisers too. If you’re finding that your regular serums and lotions just aren’t cutting it right now, you’ll need to opt for a heavier cream to help penetrate your skin and give it a barrier against the elements. We have rounded up a few of our favourite hand creams and facial moisturisers from both local and international skincare brands to see you through the winter months, keeping your skin protected, soft and hydrated.
Kotia hand cream
This New Zealand based beauty brand has one of our favourite hand creams in their lineup. Enriched with Vitamin C, E and Omega 3 as well as their signature ingredient – deer milk which harnesses protein and amino acids to ensure your hands stay hydrated. This product also contains olive oil extracts, shea butter and keratin to provide a protective barrier against the elements.
L’occitane Almond hand cream
This hand cream has been a handbag staple for a few years now. From French skincare brand, L’Occitane, this luxurious hand cream is made with almond milk and almond oil and has a thick, creamy texture without being greasy, which we love. The formula keeps your hands moisturised all day long and the subtle almond scent is heavenly.
Avène Cicalfate restorative skin cream
Another French skincare brand called Eau Thermale Avène – has created a cream that is amazing for people suffering from skin problems such as eczema, dermatitis and ultra-dry skin. The formula is perfect for sensitive skin and is even safe to use on children and babies. It is anti-bacterial, fragrance-free and free from parabens. The cream creates a hydrating barrier on the skin to help restore damaged skin.
Syrene Aqua Hydrating Masque
This isn’t a moisturizer as such it’s more of an overnight hydrating masque but we love it so much we couldn’t leave it off our list. It has a gel-like texture but is super hydrating. We love to slather it on our faces a couple times a week, or when our skin is looking very dry and sleep with it on. The marine-based formula is so beautiful with seaweed extract, marine collagen, black fern and manuka honey.
Medik8 Advanced Day Total protect
This is our top pick for an all-round protecting and hydrating moisturiser. By skincare experts, Medik8 – the formula contains an added SPF 30 for protection against UVA, UVB, as well as pollution protection, infrared protection and blue-light protection. It is the perfect daily moisturiser that absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving it feeling heavy or greasy.
Ashley & Co Blossom & Gilt Soothe Tube
Our final pick is this beautiful hand cream from New Zealand owned and operated Ashley & Co. We usually shy away from anything that is scented, however, this hand cream is beautifully scented but also very hydrating without agitating the skin, and it isn’t greasy, which is a win-win in our books. It contains ingredients such as Costa Rican Tuberose, Wild Jasmine, Ylang, Ylang, White Tobacco and Lime. With the formula containing Shea butter and Vitamin E.
