The work of more than 180 NZ artists looks set to transform The Cloud at Auckland’s Queens Wharf in March

A snapshot of creative minds is set to transform Auckland’s Queens Wharf, with the return of the Aotearoa Art Fair to The Cloud from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 March 2023.

Sate your cultural curiosity at the event that is a key highlight on the Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland summer calendar and is expected to attract more than 10,000 visitors over four days.

As New Zealand’s largest contemporary art event, the Aotearoa Art Fair presents 40 galleries, showing the work of more than 180 artists, as well as artist talks, an outdoor sculpture space, an art bookshop, cafés, and bars.

This year’s Fair will also showcase the work of international artists from the wider Pacific region through the inclusion of galleries from Australia, Rarotonga, Indonesia, and South Korea.

“This is a special moment for New Zealanders and international visitors to Auckland to engage with the incredible talent of artists from Aotearoa alongside leading and emerging artists from around the globe – all without leaving The Cloud,” says Fair Director, Hayley White.

Additionally, alongside galleries from Auckland and Wellington, this year’s Fair will also include galleries from Hamilton, Dunedin, Gisborne, Tauranga, and Queenstown.

In addition to its cultural impact, the Aotearoa Art Fair is economically important to New Zealand’s visual arts sector.

In 2022, the galleries sold more than NZ$8 million of art, making it one of New Zealand’s most significant generators of funds for artists and galleries. Much of the art on show is made especially for the Fair and includes works that start at a few hundred dollars, right up to major works by artists who have participated in international biennales and museum exhibitions around the world.

Tickets are on sale now.
