A mustering of models

While you were making your breakfast yesterday (Sunday 5 August 2012), models from eight of the country’s top agencies were queuing at Auckland’s Viaduct Event Centre for the New Zealand Fashion Week 2012 model casting.

Clyne, Nova, N Management, Monarch, KHM, Vanity, 62 Models and Red 11 (bookended by a solo appearance from Wellingtonian Alistair Boyd) each had 15 to 30 minute sessions within which to parade their best in front of gathered New Zealand Fashion Week designers and producers.

FashioNZ spoke to booker Ursula Dixon of Clyne, who said “the big story for me, is the huge interest in our models with freckles.  Also, New Zealand’s aesthetic is really growing up and evolving…there is massive interest in edgier models (both male and female) with true international runway aesthetic and proportions.”  Dixon explains that New Zealand in the past has used more commercial, ‘print’ girls on the catwalk.

Dixon says that other shifts in the New Zealand scene which are representative of overseas trends, are the rise of older models, and the “rise and rise” of Asian models.
