Sparkling sunshine mingled with blue skies and seas on an unusual Auckland spring day could only be enhanced by the launch of Specsaver’s four new collections of designer prescription sunglasses: Vintage, Glamour, Sporty and Classic.
The Tuesday afternoon affair was held at Hilton’s Fish Restaurant where a four-course lunch was served, each course cleverly echoing the theme of the collection it was introducing.
Reminiscent of Breakfast at Tiffany’s and a smattering of Thelma and Louise, the Vintage Collection showcased designs from Specsaver collaborator and Australian designer Alex Perry with plenty of tortoise shell detailing, aviator styles, art deco shapes, strong rims, and silver and gold end pieces.
Worthy of note was a Country Road tortoise shell pair with an undercurrent of sexy purple, a bold statement piece that exudes confidence and sass effortlessly.
Next up, was the Glamour Collection – something of a forte for Alex Perry given the style of his clothing designs – that came purring down the long table with show-stopping diamante embellishments, black filigree, and rounded, feminine curves.
The Sporty Collection then followed with robust designs from Roxy, Quiksilver and Tommy Hilfiger – fun brights and sleek blacks accompanied by retro shapes and themes to keep things interesting.
A sweet end to the afternoon, the Classic Collection came accompanied by the classic Kiwi pavlova which stole the limelight for a moment.
But as everyone loves a classic, eyes soon averted back to the sunnies featuring timeless designs that weren’t over the top – dark shades of brown, black and grey enhanced by clean, no-nonsense frames authored by Country Road, Osiris, Tommy Hilfiger and Quiksilver.
With 34 frames to choose from among these collections, spec wearers are no longer limited to specialist shades that compromise on style and price. A truly ‘Spec-tacular range of prescription sunnies, it’s set to bring style freedom to many for the fast approaching summer.
*This new range of designer prescription sunglasses is included in Specsavers’ ‘two pairs for one low price’ deal. Purchase one pair of designer prescription sunglasses and one pair of designer glasses for just $299.
