“Breasts are at the heart of what we do”
This October, as Breast Cancer Awareness Month is in full swing, OHEN Underwear is leading the charge to support the 3,500 women diagnosed with breast cancer in Aotearoa each year. Known for their focus on lingerie and self-care, OHEN is using its platform to raise awareness for breast health—a cause deeply aligned with the brand’s ethos.
“We believe breast health is a collective responsibility, and no one should face breast cancer alone.” says OHEN co-founder Lu Blade. Blade’s passion for supporting women through their breast cancer journeys is driving the brand’s latest initiative: an art exhibition and auction fundraiser in partnership with the Breast Cancer Foundation New Zealand (BCFNZ).
From October 9th to 24th, OHEN will host a multidisciplinary art exhibition at Allpress Studio in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland, featuring a diverse range of works donated by twenty contemporary Kiwi artists and gallerists. The exhibition showcases everything from jewellery to glass, paintings, and photography, creating a vibrant visual experience that also serves a vital cause.
Attendees can purchase smaller works directly, while larger pieces, valued at $1,000 and above, will be auctioned on October 23rd. Proceeds from the event will go directly to BCFNZ, supporting breast cancer research, awareness campaigns, and early detection programs.
The exhibition features works across multiple mediums, including:
- Jewellery by Claire Hammon from Meadowlark
- Glassworks by Kate Mitchell, Simon Lewis-Wards, and Kate Ruteki
- Paintings by Grace Bader, Ruby Wilkinson, and Alan Ibell
- Prints by Claudia Kogachi and Priscilla Rose Howe
- A unique sculpture by Caitlin Devoy titled ‘Switch (mid-mid)’
- Photographic works by Amber Jones, renowned photographer and director
But this exhibition is more than just a showcase of stunning art—it’s a call to action. Shockingly, 30% of eligible women in New Zealand aren’t taking advantage of their free mammograms, even though these screenings detect 80–90% of breast cancers*. OHEN’s event aims to spark conversations about breast health and empower attendees to take control of their well-being, while encouraging the women in their lives to do the same.
Visitors are invited to explore the exhibition at Allpress Studio, immerse themselves in the work of talented Kiwi artists, and join OHEN in making a tangible difference for breast cancer patients and survivors across the country.
